Title:Christ in Apse - Basilica of Cosmas and Damien
Notes:This figure of Christ is the center of the apse mosaic. Christ is bearded, and has distinctive olive skin. It has been noted that the craftsmen of the mosaic perhaps were Syrian, due to an influx of trade workers in Rome following an earthquake in Syria. The basilica hall was attached to a round temple that has been identified as the Temple of Jupiter Stator, which has been dated to the 3rd century BC.
