Title: | Hagia Eirene, Istanbul, Turkey |
---|
Notes: | Hagia Eirene is the first substantial Christian church built in Constantinople in the mid-4th century, followed shortly by Hagia Sophia. It held important significance for the early Christian church, with the First Council of Constantinople - Second Ecumenical Council, that confirmed the Nicene Creed and struggled with issues of the Arian Controversy, meeting there in 381 CE. The church building was rebuilt by Justinian and little remains of the original structure. |
