Title: | Gospel Book of the Syrian Jacobite Church - Christ's entry into Jerusalem |
---|
Notes: | This Syriac manuscript now held in the Vatican originated in Mar Matthei near Nineveh in the Mosul area of Iraq. Its clearly local Arabic influence combines with a fluid knowledge of biblical and theological Christian traditions. One of its illustrations (not shown here) includes the iconographically significant early Christian motif of the Hand of God extending from the heavens. |
