Index Islamicus This database "indexes literature on Islam, the Middle East and the Muslim world....Material cited in the Index Islamicus includes not only work written about the Middle East, but also about the other main Muslim areas of Asia and Africa, plus Muslim minorities elsewhere. Over 2,000 journals are monitored for inclusion in the database, together with conference proceedings, monographs, multi-authored works and book reviews. Index of Christian Art This is the largest database of medieval art with full text records for nearly 9000 works of art dating from early apostolic times to 1400 A.D. This database contains all of the works electronically indexed by the archive since 1991. Each work, depending on the medium can have up to 50 different classification fields including such data as Location/Ownership, Date, School, Style, etc. The subject matter of each work is classified under one or more of the 26,000 Subject terms developed over eighty years by the Index and a full text description accompanies each work. Index Theologicus (IxTheo) Index Theologicus replaces and expands the Zeitschrift Inhaltsdienst Theologie (ZID). Indexes approximately 2000 currently published periodicals in theological and religious studies periodicals, as welll as festschriften and congress publications. Index to Hebrew Periodicals (IHP) is made up of four parts:

  • the Index to Hebrew Periodicals: major Hebrew journals from 1977 to date (with some exceptions);
  • the Eretz Israel Database: non-Hebrew articles of all periods, pre-1977 Hebrew articles, and a selection of books, pamphlets, and reports, all focused on the history, geography, and archaeology of Israel;
  • the Tel-Hai Index to Hebrew Newspapers: various newspapers from 1985-1992 and 1994-1997;
  • the Bar-Ilan Indexing Project: articles in the literary supplements of the daily Hebrew press from 1985 – present as well as indexes to other Hebrew periodicals.

Index to Military Periodicals (AULIMP) [Air University Library] (Air University version) Subject index to significant articles, news items, and editorials from English-language military and aeronautical periodicals. Provided by Muir S. Fairchild Research Information Center, Air University, United States Air Force. Covers citations from 1987 to present.

This version has a more intuitive advanced search, offers more than one field to expand Boolean search, and offers "any of these," "all of these," and "as a phrase" as search options. This version allows display of up to 50 results per page. Database locks user out without much advance warning after certain amount of time has passed (10 minutes?) and user must select "restart search" to stay in the database.--Frank Lester

IngentaConnect (formerly Ingenta Reveal and UnCover) Ingenta indexes over 28,000 journals in a wide array of subjects, and provides many full text articles. If no full text is available, it offers articles for purchase, via download or fax. Ingenta includes an alerting service which allows users to save search strategies and receive regular notification of newly published articles (email alerts), and a table-of-contents service which emails the TOCs of new journal issues as they are published. Vanderbilt users must create a personal profile on Ingenta to use these features. [Info]

INSPEC -- primary physics, computer science and electrical engineering database (via Engineering Village 2) Inspec provides citations and abstracts to journals, conference proceedings and other publications in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computing. International Bibliography of Art (IBA) The International Bibliography of Art (IBA) is the definitive resource for scholarly literature on western art. International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text (IIMPFT) IIMP provides indexing and abstracts for more than 430 international music periodicals, plus full text for 110 journals. Although a few titles start as early as 1874, the majority of records date from the past ten years. Covering both scholarly journals and popular magazines, it provides articles on a diverse array of musical genres, from the liturgical chants of medieval monks to the eclectic sounds of contemporary alternative rock musicians.
