Title:Jesus and the Samaritan Woman
Notes:JESUS MAFA is a response to the New Testament readings from the Lectionary by a Christian community in Cameroon, Africa. Each of the readings was selected and adapted to dramatic interpretation by the community members. Photographs of their interpretations were made, and these were then transcribed to paintings.

In this beautiful representation of Jesus’ time with the woman at the well, Jesus is gently holding out his hand asking for some water. The woman is carrying a large jug to refill at the well. Her face betrays a level of shock that a man such as Jesus would acknowledge her existence, let alone speak to her. The overall tone of the piece invokes a sense of anticipation within the viewer. We are led to further imagine the events that take place as Jesus welcomes the woman with open arms and moves her to proclaim his name throughout the city.
