Title: | Lamb of God - Basilica of Cosmas and Damien |
---|
Notes: | Lamb of God depicted over the four rivers of creation. This is a popular motif emphasizing Christ as the advent of a new creation. The Basilica is the oldest church in the Roman Forum, and is an example of Christian appropriation of pagan temples. The basilica hall was attached to a round temple that has been identified as the Temple of Jupiter Stator, which has been dated to the 3rd century BC. |
