Title:Madonna with Two Angels
Notes:Filippo Lippi was a 15th century Carmelite priest and Italian painter. In this piece, we see Mary gazing downward with her hands clasped in prayer in front of her, a thin halo of light encircling her head. She sits on a chair in front of an open window that reveals a city, shoreline, and mountains. Two angels hold up baby Jesus, who stretches out his arms to his mother. An interesting part of this painting is that one of the angels looks at the viewer with a mischievous grin—the artist has left the interpretation of this up to the spectator. Perhaps the angel knows something we do not.
