Title: | Wheat Field in Rain |
---|
Notes: | Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch painter famous for his self-portraits, still lifes, portraits, and landscapes that exhibit expressive brushwork and vivid colors. He struggled with depression and only posthumously gained notoriety and fame, but now he is considered one of the most influential painters in Western art history. While in France, he voluntarily admitted himself to an asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. This painting is the view he had from his room, one of an enclosed field. He painted at least 14 paintings of this field, capturing it at various times over the changing seasons. In this version, the rain pours down on the field, providing nourishment and refreshment. The text for this passage reminds us to be patient in waiting for the coming of the Lord like the farmer patiently awaits the crops from the earth. During the advent season, we wait patiently as we hope to encounter Jesus as a newborn child. |
