Title:St. Peter and St. Andrew
Notes:Peter Koenig is a Catholic artist whose goal in life is “to paint the drama, romance and poetry of the sacred book.” In this painting, he depicts the calling of the disciples, specifically the apostles Peter and Andrew. Peter appears on the right with his characteristic curly hair and beard and Andrew stands beside him. Just as Jesus foretold, they are fishing for people: “’Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.” The people in their net represent a diverse group, showing that they have followed Jesus’ command to preach the gospel to all nations.
