Title:Jai Krist
Notes:Wesley was born in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh into a fifth generation Christian family of Hindu and Muslim descent. He belongs to the Lucknow school of painting. His paintings reflect this influence and that of the Chughtai school of painting that flourished in India at the turn of the century. Wesley made art based on both biblical and secular themes. He used water colours, oil paintings, miniatures and wooden carvings.

Wesley's painting "Blue Madonna" was used for the first UNICEF Christmas card, while five of his paintings were exhibited at the 1950 Holy Year Exhibition in the Vatican. He is also known for designing the funeral urn for Mahatma Gandhi's ashes.

“In this village scene there are realistic shadows, as a result of the glowing sunlight, which the artist paints so well in his watercolours. Even Jesus casts a shadow here, as he is fully human in this social situation with simple people of every type turning towards him. The scene is a courtyard with a background of mudbrick walls and touches of tile roof and old thatch on bamboo frames. There are no young women in the crowd around Jesus, although there are several children…Jesus is clothed in a traditional white dhoti with a saffron cotton shawl covering one of his bare shoulders. In his left hand he grips one end of a slender, well-formed wooden yoke as he says to the people, ‘Take my yoke upon you…’” Taken from Frank Wesley: Exploring Faith with a Brush by Naomi Wray
