Title: | Kiss of Judas |
---|
Notes: | Giotto di Bondone was active during the Late Middle Ages as an architect and painter. His masterpiece is the adornment of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua. The Kiss of Judas is one of his most famous frescoes portraying the moment Judas betrays Jesus. The two men stand in the center of the painting. Judas reaches for Jesus and intimately embraces him as they lock eyes. Those standing around are both followers and enemies of Jesus. They seem as though they could come alive and begin fighting before our very eyes. Giotto captures Jesus’ resignation to his fate beautifully in a posture and expression of calm while everyone else in the painting is engaged in some form of dramatic action. |
